About CMLA
Content Management License Administrator (CMLA), LLC is the entity formed to provide commercial licenses for the CMLA Technology Specification which forms a trust model for the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Digital Rights Management (DRM) version 2.0 (and, as updated) interoperability specification.
CMLA also extends this trust model to enable content and service protection for mobile broadcast by adding support of the IP Datacast over DVB-H: Service Purchase and Protection (SPP) A100 Specification Annex B (18Crypt) and the OMA Bcast DRM Profile.
CMLA OMA DRM Version 2.1 also provides an “Approved DRM’ to the Digital Entertainment “Content Ecosystem (“DECE”) LLC (and also known as “UltraViolet”) system for the delivery of media and entertainment content to consumers. See www.uvvu.com for information on UltraViolet.

- CMLA provides commercial licenses to companies wishing to use the CMLA trust model and implement the CMLA Technical Specification.
- CMLA agreements include compliance and robustness rules for CMLA licensed products and services.
- CMLA provides trust model services (key generation and certificate signing services) for licensees (client vendors, service providers and developers) implementing OMA or OMA and DVB-H, or UltraViolet in CMLA licensed products and services.

- 3GPP와 OMA의 합의에 따라 DRM 규격 제정은 OMA로 이관
. 3GPP의 별도 규격 제정은 포기하는 대신 협동 방안에 대해서만 논의

- OMA와 CMLA의 관계
. OMA는 OMA DRM에 대한 기술 표준을 정의
. CMLA는 정의된 OMA DRM 규격서를 토대로 DRM 관련 Stakeholder (Content Owner,
Content Provider, Service Provider, Device Manufacturer, Content User)에게 Trust
Model을 제공하고 법률적 약정(legal agreement)을 통해 강제화함
OMA가 Trust Mechanism을 제공한다면, CMLA는 Trust Model을 제공
4) MPEG LA
- Patent Portfolio를 구성하고 특허 이용자가 라이센스를 One-stop 방식의 Single License
를 취득할 수 있도록 서비스를 제공하는 독립 기구
- MPEG-2 뿐만 아니라 IEEE 1394, DVB-T, MPEG-4 Visual(Part 2), MPEG-4 System
and AVC/H.264, 그리고 DRM에 대한 Patent Portfolio를 운영 중
